The River Dell Golden Hawks Freshman Football Team (6-0) achieved its third consecutive shutout with a dominating 30-0 victory over Bergenfield at Bergenfield High School in New Jersey, maintaining an undefeated record for the 2025 season.
The Golden Hawks executed a familiar game plan, starting with a strong opening kickoff return. Mark Spano fielded the deep kick at the ten-yard line and swiftly moved up the field, skillfully maneuvering around several players to reach the 46-yard line.
Spano continued to shine in the running game as quarterback, gaining 39 yards on three consecutive plays that brought the Golden Hawks further into Bergenfield territory.
On first down at the Bears' 15-yard line, Chris Barone took over the quarterback position and completed a pass to Jaeden Raguindin. Raguindin showcased his speed, making several impressive moves before powering into the end zone for the touchdown.
River Dell's defense made an immediate impact, stopping a Bergenfield running play inside their own end zone, which resulted in a turnover on downs.
The Golden Hawks' offense quickly capitalized on this opportunity, with Barone throwing a pass to Raguindin in the flat. Raguindin turned the corner and accelerated down the left side of the field, scoring a 40-yard touchdown.
Before the quarter ended, River Dell's defense made another significant play as Chris Nader intercepted a pass in Bears territory.
The Golden Hawks wasted no time adding to their lead, with Mark Spano launching a pass into the end zone. Jake Van Wettering made a spectacular catch while falling backward, managing to keep his feet in bounds for a 20-yard touchdown.
River Dell looked poised to extend their lead even further when Jake Van Wettering intercepted a pass and returned it to the Bergenfield 30-yard line. Though the Golden Hawks moved the ball inside the five-yard line, their drive ultimately stalled, with Spano stopped short of the goal line on fourth down, resulting in a turnover on downs.
However, the River Dell defense rose to the occasion once more, thwarting another Bears running play intended to create space. The running back was tackled by a group of Golden Hawks defenders in the end zone, resulting in a safety.
In the third quarter, River Dell put the game away with an electrifying highlight-reel play. Spano took the snap, rolled out to his left, and, unable to find an open receiver, sprinted down the left side of the field. He cut back toward the middle, broke into the clear, and dashed down the right sideline into the end zone for a magnificent 65-yard score.
The Golden Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, October 11, hosting Teaneck at River Dell High School, with kickoff scheduled for 9 a.m.
