The River Dell Golden Hawks Varsity Football Team (4-2) extended its winning streak to four games with a decisive 48-7 victory over the Bergenfield Bears (1-5) at River Dell High School in Oradell, New Jersey.

The Golden Hawks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Jayden Kim ignited the offense by returning the opening kickoff to the Bergenfield 40-yard line.

On the first play, running back Cain Lanza took a handoff from quarterback Zion Yoon, powered through a crowd of defenders, and sprinted into the end zone for the touchdown.

Lanza also made his mark on defense by recovering a fumble at the Bergenfield 41-yard line. River Dell quickly advanced the ball further with an impressive 35-yard run by Yoon.

With a first and goal situation at the six-yard line, Lanza took another handoff from Yoon and surged through a cluster of players into the end zone for another score.

Although the Golden Hawks seemed ready to extend their lead, Bergenfield's defensive back Xavier Valdez intercepted a pass and returned it to near midfield.

Bergenfield's offense managed to penetrate Golden Hawks territory but was stopped on a crucial fourth down, resulting in a turnover on downs.

Seizing the momentum, River Dell's offense struck quickly. Quarterback Zion Yoon took the snap, dropped back in the pocket, and launched a 61-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jayden Kim.

With just one minute remaining in the first quarter, River Dell scored again as Yoon connected with Mike DeGroat. DeGroat evaded a defender and sprinted into the end zone for a thrilling 40-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Golden Hawks' defense forced Bergenfield into a quick three-and-out. Yoon had plenty of pass protection, which allowed him to complete a 24-yard pass to Iain Rossig, followed by another pass that pushed the ball deeper into the Bears' territory.

On first and goal at the four-yard line, Jordan Mellaci received the handoff and immediately surged into the end zone, widening the lead to 35-0 with nine minutes left in the quarter.

Bergenfield's offense managed to gain a first down on its next possession but ultimately had to punt, landing the ball at the Golden Hawks' 17-yard line.

Yoon, in rhythm, completed a pass to Jayden Kim, who then raced downfield to the Bergenfield 43-yard line. Yoon kept connecting, throwing back-to-back passes to Mike DeGroat and Jordan Mellaci. With time running down in the first half at the 11-yard line, Yoon threw a pass to Chris Nader, who stretched the ball across the left pylon, increasing the lead to 42-0.

After halftime, Bergenfield received the kickoff and managed a successful offensive drive that lasted nine plays and covered 63 yards, culminating in a five-yard touchdown run by Jordan Correa.

River Dell solidified their dominant victory in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run by backup quarterback Brooks Esler.

The Golden Hawks will next hit the road to face the Teaneck Highwaymen (2-3) at Teaneck High School on Friday, October 10, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
